About the OCEANetwork

Our Board of Directors

	Kevin and Christine Bullock Treasurer and publications bullocks@oceanetwork.org Seeing all their children in Heaven is the Bullock’s passionate desire and they see home education as a primary tool in turning the hearts of their children toward God. Blessed with three boys and a girl, they have homeschooled from the beginning. With one student graduated, they are excited to see how the Lord is directing the paths of their three remaining homeschool children. Kevin and Christine’s chief hobby is spending time together as a family in service and fun. Their home is often overflowing with extra guests and activities. They have a heart for helping other families in their homeschooling adventure and have been involved in their local support group and co-op for many years. Kevin is a C.P.A. and Christine is a former Christian School History/Social Studies teacher contented with homeschool duty.
	Wes and Deborah Butler Home Education Week Director and Supporting Families butlers@oceanetwork.org Wes and Deborah Butler have been homeschooling 19 years, and are parents to seven children. Two of their children are married, and have blessed them with four grandchildren. (They also plan on homeschooling their children!) Five children are still at home, and four are being homeschooled. Wes and Deborah enjoy family time, their home in the country, fellowship, music, traveling, and lobbying trips to Washington, D.C. Wes is a Landscape Contractor and designer, and Deborah, President of the Salem District Oregon Music Teachers Association and piano teacher.
	Dick and Dorothy Karman Chairman of the Board and publications - karmans@oceanetwork.org Dick and Dorothy started homeschooling their two children in 1983. They enjoyed the many benefits of home educating – especially the spiritual encouragement that God provided. Their purpose for being a part of OCEANetwork is to share that support and spiritual encouragement with other families. Dick and Dorothy are the founding couple of OCEANetwork and have been serving home educators in Oregon since 1984. They also serve on the board of the National Alliance of Christian Home Education Leadership (beginninghomeschooling.com). Best of all, they are grandparents of four homeschooled grandchildren (so far).
	Seth and Anne Light Vice-Chairman of the Board and conference speakers - lights@oceanetwork.org Seth and Anne Light live in Sandy, Oregon and joined the OCEANetwork Board in 1997. Their heart is to encourage others in the journey of homeschooling, since they have been on that journey since 1989. With all four of their children having graduated from “Lighthouse Homeschool,” they are now seeing the fruit of their labors and desire others to experience that same joy. To reach others with that message, Seth and Anne work as the main coordinators for the OCEANetwork Annual State Conference. For them it is a labor of love and their prayer is that many will be touched by the messages of hope and encouragement brought to the families of our state each year.
	Peter and Joyce Padilla Correspondence and Conference registration - padillas@oceanetwork.org Having a heart to serve homeschoolers, the Padillas became actively involved in the home education movement around the mid 1980’s, when their eldest son was just an infant. By 1990, they had joined the leadership team of Polk Christian Home Educators, where they continued to serve for the next decade. In the fall of 1994, Padillas began serving on the board of OCEANetwork, with their then four young sons. In 2006, just as they should have been nearing the end of our formal homeschooling days, the Padillas adopted 3 young boys, and their journey continues. As the Padillas serve with OCEANetwork, one of their greatest pleasures is meeting other home educating families around the state. Peter and Joyce state, "We have been uplifted and encouraged by the many families we have met who share our love for the Lord and desire to serve Him wholly and completely. It is our desire to always be personable and approachable and to serve and assist you in any way we can."
	Ken and Shelli Wanvig Affiliated support groups wanvigs@oceanetwork.org Ken and Shelli live in rural Sherwood. They have enjoyed the privilege of homeschooling their four children since 1995. While they feel very inadequate for the task, it has been a joy to see the Lord provide for their needs each year. It is their desire to encourage other homeschoolers along the way, so they are also grateful for the opportunity to serve with and learn from those on the OCEAN board who have been serving homeschooling families so faithfully for many years.
	Rodger and Karen Williams Lobbying efforts and email system coordination - williams@oceanetwork.org Rodger and Karen have four children, all graduated as home school students. They are life-long Portlanders. Over the years they have recognized the need to be vigilant and watchful in Salem as well as in local politics. Rodger shares in the OCEANetwork lobbying efforts in Salem.
