Our Board of Directors

Kevin and Christine Bullock
Treasurer and publications
bullocks@oceanetwork.org
Seeing all their children in Heaven is the Bullock’s passionate desire and they see home education as a primary tool in turning the hearts of their children toward God. Blessed with three boys and a girl, they have homeschooled from the beginning and now have grades ranging from early elementary to high school.
Happily married since ‘90, Kevin and Chriss' chief hobby is spending time together as a family. They live just outside Eugene and have been involved in their local support group leadership for many years. Kevin is a C.P.A. and Christine is a former Christian School History/Social Studies teacher contented with homeschool duty.

Wes and Deborah Butler
Home Education Week Director and Supporting Families
butlers@oceanetwork.org
Wes and Deborah Butler have been homeschooling 19 years, and are parents to seven children. Two of their children are married, and have blessed them with four grandchildren. (They also plan on homeschooling their children!) Five children are still at home, and four are being homeschooled.
Wes and Deborah enjoy family time, their home in the country, fellowship, music, traveling, and lobbying trips to Washington, D.C.
Wes is a Landscape Contractor and designer, and Deborah, President of the Salem District Oregon Music Teachers Association and piano teacher.
Tom and Nicole Davis
Secretary of the Board
davis@oceanetwork.org

Children and grandchildren are a blessing from the LORD. They are the motivation for Tom and Nicole's continued service to OCEAN since 1994. Since starting home schooling in 1983 they now realize that teaching a child to walk with the Lord is more important than academics. A parent's right to direct their children's lives and education is a fragile freedom worth protecting.
When their three children entered college, Nicole started working full time at Tom's dental office in Dallas. They serve in their church, help their parents, and delight in their grandchildren.

Dick and Dorothy Karman
Chairman of the Board and publications - karmans@oceanetwork.org
Dick and Dorothy started homeschooling their two children in 1983. They enjoyed the many benefits of home educating – especially the spiritual encouragement that God provided. Their purpose for being a part of OCEANetwork is to share that support and spiritual encouragement with other families.
Dick and Dorothy are the founding couple of OCEANetwork and have been serving home educators in Oregon since 1984. They also serve on the board of the National Alliance of Christian Home Education Leadership (beginninghomeschooling.com). Best of all, they are grandparents of three homeschooled grandchildren (so far).

Seth and Anne Light
Vice-Chairman of the Board and conference speakers - lights@oceanetwork.org
Seth and Anne Light live in Sandy, Oregon and joined the OCEANetwork Board in 1997. Their heart is to encourage others in the journey of homeschooling, since they have been on that journey since 1989. With three of their four children being graduates of “Lighthouse Homeschool” and one more to follow in a few years, they are seeing the fruit of their labors and desire others to experience that same joy. To reach others with that message, Seth and Anne work as the main coordinators for the OCEANetwork Annual State Conference. For them it is a labor of love and their prayer is that many will be touched by the messages of hope and encouragement brought to the families of our state each year.

Peter and Joyce Padilla
Correspondence and Conference registration - padillas@oceanetwork.org
Having a heart to serve homeschoolers and further support home education in Oregon, the Padillas joined the OCEANetwork team the fall of 1994. In addition to working on the OCEANetwork Board and homeschooling their seven sons, they have served as local homeschool support group leaders in Polk County since 1990.
One of their greatest pleasures is to meet home educators across the state as they represent OCEANetwork at various events. As always it their sincere desire to be of service in any way they can.

Ken and Shelli Wanvig
Affiliated support groups
wanvigs@oceanetwork.org

Ken and Shelli live in rural Sherwood. They have enjoyed the privilege of homeschooling their four children since 1995. While they feel very inadequate for the task, it has been a joy to see the Lord provide for their needs each year. It is their desire to encourage other homeschoolers along the way, so they are also grateful for the opportunity to serve with and learn from those on the OCEAN board who have been serving homeschooling families so faithfully for many years. The Wanvigs’ primary responsibilities are to work with OCEAN’s affiliated support groups and to handle the email for the organization.

Rodger and Karen Williams
Lobbying efforts and email system coordination - williams@oceanetwork.org
Karen and I have four children. Three are still being homeschooled and one is in college. We have lived in Portland all of our lives. Over the years we have recognized the need to be vigilant and watchful in Salem as well as in local politics. I manage the e-mail lists for OCEANetwork and share in the lobbying efforts in Salem. Each family in the board takes on specific tasks, and I am grateful for all who volunteer their time to this important work.
