CURRENT ALERTS
HB 3446 & SB 809, Bills to improve homeschool freedom in Oregon 4/22/13
Action Requested: None needed at this time. We will continue to monitor other legislation for homeschool dangers as it progresses.
Summary: After great hearings, both SB 809 and HB 3446 failed to receive work sessions. That means they are "dead in committee" for this year.
SB 809, Removes testing for homeschool students 4/9/13
Action Requested: Write the Senate Education and Workforce Development Committee asking for a work session on SB 809.
Summary: In order to progress, SB 809 has to have a work session before April 18th.
HB 3446, Removes notification and testing requirements 4/9/13
Action Requested: 1. Contact the House Education Committee indicating your support for HB 3446. Encourage Chair Gelser to schedule a work session on HB 3446.
Summary: The House Education Committee heard testimony on HB 3446 on April 8th and did not hold it over to a later hearing!
HB 3446, Removes notification and testing requirements 4/8/13
Action Requested: 1. Pray for the hearing on HB 3446. 2. Contact the committee (listed below) indicating your support for HB 3446. 3. We are NOT asking you to come to Salem for the hearing because we are last on the agenda and probably won't get a chance to testify.
Summary: HB 3446, which will remove both notification and testing requirements for homeschoolers, is scheduled for a hearing in the House Education Committee at 1 p.m. in Hearing Room D at the Capitol.
SB 809, Removes testing for homeschool students 4/4/13
Action Requested: 1. Pray that Senator Hass will schedule a worksession for SB 809. 2. We are not asking you to contact the committee at this time.
Summary: SB 809 received a respectful hearing from the Senate Education Committee.
SB 809, Removes testing for homeschool students 4/2/13
Action Requested: 1. If you are close to Salem, come to the hearing! 2. Email the committee members. 3. Pray for those giving testimony. 4. Pray for a receptive committee.
Summary: SB 809 will be heard by the Senate Education and Workforce Committee on April 4th at 1 p.m.
HB 3446 & SB 809, Bills to improve homeschool freedom in Oregon 3/12/13
Action Requested: Ask the Senate Education and Workforce Development Committee to hear SB 809 on Apple Pie Day, March 21st. Ask the House Education Committee for a hearing on HB 3446 soon.
Summary: The Senate committee meets on Thursdays, not the House.
HB 3446 & SB 809, Bills to improve homeschool freedom in Oregon 3/12/13
Action Requested: Contact the Senate Education and Workforce Development Committee and the House Education Committee to ask for hearings on the homeschool bills.
Summary: OCEANetwork submitted two bills to increase homeschool freedoms in Oregon. It's time to ask for hearings on those bills.
SB 274, Mandatory Eye Exams 3/5/13
Action Requested: Thank you for your calls and emails to the committee. No further actions is needed at this time.
Summary: SB 274 replaced by HB 3000 which does not have the same problems as SB 274.
SB 274, Mandatory Eye Exams 3/1/13
Action Requested: Contact the Senate Health Care and Human Services Committee to share your concern over SB 274.
Summary: SB 274 requires all students, including homeschoolers, to receive comprehensive eye examinations prior to beginning their education program.
